EB-2/EB-3 Employment-Based Green Card: I-485 Document Checklis
With EB-3 Chart B advancing significantly in October, and it remains uncertain whether Chart B will continue to be available in November, applicants who are eligible should prepare quickly and aim to file their I-485 before October 31.

1️⃣ Required Document Checklist
Please refer to the cover image for the detailed document checklist.(The dates shown in the documents are only examples for illustration purposes.)
Because this is an employment-based green card application, you will need an employer-signed Form I-485 Supplement J to confirm that the company still intends to offer and support the permanent position.
You should also provide:
H-1B approval notices
Recent six months of pay stubs
These documents help demonstrate that your H-1B status has been properly maintained before filing I-485.
If you previously held F-1 status, all of your Form I-20s should also be included to prove that your F-1 status was properly maintained.
We have seen cases where applicants were asked for additional evidence during the I-485 interview because USCIS officers noticed missing I-20 documents from previous periods.
This shows that I-485 review has become increasingly detailed.
2️⃣ Documents You Should Prepare Early
Among all the required documents, two items often take the most time:
✅ Medical Examination Report (Form I-693)
A medical exam report is required when filing I-485. Without it, the I-485 application may face serious issues.
For information on how to schedule the medical exam, please see Figure 2.
The timeline is usually:
Scheduling the medical exam: about 1–2 weeks in advance
Medical exam results: usually 2–3 weeks
If additional vaccinations are needed: potentially another 1 week
After completing vaccinations and waiting for final results: another 1–2 weeks
Therefore, if you need to file quickly, the medical exam should be one of your first priorities.
✅ Birth Certificate / Birth Certificate Notarization
Obtaining a properly prepared birth certificate or notarized birth record can also take time, so it is recommended to prepare it early.
3️⃣ Suggested Timeline
First, communicate with your employer’s immigration attorney as soon as possible and confirm whether the legal team can prepare and file your I-485 before the end of October.
Keep in mind:
Immigration law firms have limited capacity and may not be able to submit every eligible applicant’s I-485 immediately.
If your company allows you to hire your own attorney and is willing to sign Form I-485 Supplement J (confirming that the permanent job offer remains available), you may also consider filing through an outside attorney.
For applicants who need assistance, Attorney Xiaozeng can help prepare and file the case.
⏰ Recommended Timeline:
Ideally, by mid-October, you should have:
✅ Medical examination completed✅ All supporting documents prepared✅ Employer coordination confirmed
Filing during the third week of October would generally provide a safer timeline.
