2026 PWD Approval Timeline: Real Case Summary

Recently, Attorney Xiaozeng has received several PWD approval notices. We selected a number of real cases filed at different times over the past year to provide you with actual data and timelines, so you can better assess the progress of your own case.

In the past, PWD cases could take around six months to be approved. This year, processing has been much faster, with many cases being approved in approximately three months. Please see the table in Figure 2.

Attorney Xiaozeng has also summarized several factors that may affect PWD processing times:

1. OEWS vs. Non-OEWS Source

This is currently one of the more noticeable factors.

The Department of Labor (DOL) publishes separate processing timelines for OEWS and Non-OEWS cases. According to the DOL data published through June 30, 2026, Non-OEWS cases were approximately one month slower than OEWS cases. See Figure 3 for details.

If you use the standard OEWS prevailing wage, the case generally goes through the OEWS queue.

If you submit an employer-provided survey or another alternative wage source, the case may fall under the Non-OEWS category.

2. Are the Job Duties/Requirements Complex? Is the SOC Easy to Determine?

The NPWC (National Prevailing Wage Center) is responsible for reviewing the position and determining the appropriate occupational classification (SOC) and prevailing wage.

If the position has more complex requirements involving education, experience, special skills, licenses/certifications, etc., additional review may be required, which can potentially increase processing time.

3. Redetermination / Center Director Review

If the employer does not agree with the wage or SOC determination after the initial PWD is issued and requests a redetermination, the case enters a different queue, which can result in a longer processing time.

One important reminder: the processing month published by the DOL does not mean that every PWD filed during that month has already been processed.

Therefore, even PWD cases submitted in the same month may still have different approval dates.
